Our Building

The original 1967 library, designed by Denver architect Tor Westgaard, was built in memory of local Olympic skier, Wallace “Buddy” Werner after he was killed tragically in a Swiss avalanche at the young age of 29. Donations poured in from all over the world to construct a library for the small town that loved their favorite son.

2008/2009 Expansion Project

March 21, 2009 marked the rededication ceremony of the newly expanded Bud Werner Memorial Library whereby concluding a journey that began 12 years earlier with citizen input, needs assessments and long range planning.

LEED Silver Certified

 

The Library demonstrated commitment to sustainable building design by earning a US Green Building Council Silver LEED Certificate.  View the library's LEED Scorecard.

An 11kw photovoltaic system was installed on the roof of the new addition in 2009.  Funding for this solar project was provided by grants from the Colorado Governor’s Energy Office and the Colorado Division of Local Government’s Energy Impact Assistant Program.
