A pair of ocean films from the 2017 International Wildlife Film Festival

Operation Whale
A film by Sarah Cunliffe
A team of scientists and filmmakers document the largest gathering of sharks in UK waters, triggered by the discovery of a whale carcass. Witness the UK’s first whale-fall experiment, recreating what happens when a deceased 7-ton humpback whale drops to the bottom of the ocean. The film reveals how this great ocean event is a vital part of the marine food chain and key to survival for some.
Run time: 46 min.

Soul of the Vermillion Sea
A film by Sean Bogle
The small fishing communities of the upper Gulf of California are facing a crisis – the black market demand for the swim bladder of an endangered fish called the totoaba is putting these communities and ecosystems at risk. This illegal fishery is also driving the most endangered marine mammal on the planet, the vaquita, a porpoise endemic to this region, to extinction.
Run time: 29 min.
