Sketchbook Project: Visit the Mobile Library

Friday, August 15, 2014 - 12:00pm to 4:00pm
  • Library Lawn - Outside of the Children's Storytime Room

It's like a taco truck, but with Sketchbooks.

The Sketchbook Project is a global, crowd-sourced art project and interactive, traveling exhibition of handmade books. The mission is to allow anyone to be able to participate in art and to create a collection of work that represents the current state of artists worldwide. Every year, the Sketchbooks go on a road trip, a.k.a. the Mobile Sketchbook Library.

Visit the Mobile Sketchbook Library!
The Mobile Library will be open at the Bud Werner Memorial Library from 2-6 p.m.on Thursday, Aug. 14 and noon-4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15.

What is it?
The Mobile Library is a traveling library that will go on tour with 4,500 handmade books from artists all over the world – including an estimated 200 Sketchbook submissions from your friends and neighbors in Steamboat. The Mobile Library's stop at the Bud Werner Memorial Library is part of the Central Tour, and it coincides with the Steamboat Springs All Arts Festival, which includes a wide range of special visual and performing arts events throughout the community.

How it works.

  • Visiting the Mobile Library is free. It will be parked in the Bud Werner parking lot, next to the Yampa River.
  • Step up to the Mobile Library and get your free library card.
  • Browse for Sketchbooks you want to peruse. You can search by names, topics, materials used – just like in the regular library.
  • The Sketchbook librarians will pull out your book choice (plus a second mystery book). Take it to the tables under the Library Lawn trees for perusal.
  • Return the Sketchbook to the Mobile Library.
  • Repeat.

Keep the creativity flowing.
For those who are inspired by their visit to the Mobile Library, Bud Werner Memorial Library will have a limited number of blank Sketchbooks available on site at a discount for those who want to create a Sketchbook for the 2015 tour.
