LUNAFEST Steamboat Springs 2017

Thursday, July 20, 2017 - 7:00pm to 8:30pm
  • Library Hall

LUNAFEST is a traveling film festival featuring award-winning short films made by, for and about women.

Hosted by the Bud Werner Memorial Library, this nationally touring film festival is designed to benefit a local organization that serves women in the Yampa Valley community. This year, LUNAFEST benefits Young Bloods Collective, the creators of SPEAK--Performances from Women in the Yampa Valley.

The film festival kicks off at 7 p.m. This season’s program of nine films filled with stories of reflection, hope and humor will compel discussion, make you laugh, tug at your heartstrings and motivate you to make a difference in your community. Incredibly diverse in style and content, LUNAFEST is united by a common thread of exceptional storytelling.

Building on the success of the inaugural presentation of SPEAK, Young Bloods Collective will be sharing two performances from the 2017 show to warm everyone up for LUNAFEST and to get the creative juices flowing on submissions for the 2018 SPEAK performance. B Torres will perform Masculinity Makeover and Emily Waldron will perform Smile and talk about the vision for the 2018 show.

Your $10 donation at the door supports Young Bloods Collective's efforts to improve lives of women in the Yampa Valley through SPEAK, and the Breast Cancer Prevention Partners' work nationwide.

About Young Bloods Collective
Young Bloods Collective is a nonprofit serving the next generation of creatives in Routt County, striving to make arts and cultural endeavors more accessible by building and growing the local creative community. The group is led by a board of eight strong and diverse women who all live, work and create in the Yampa Valley, and the membership currently includes 35 members, more than half of whom are women. In March, Young Bloods Collective created a performance called SPEAK, inspired by the style of the Vagina Monologues but uniquely and very authentically local. The hour-long show featured eight original pieces written and performed by women in the Yampa Valley and including performances in Hayden, Oak Creek and Steamboat. SPEAK event proceeds benefited Advocates Building Peaceful Communities and Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains. Young Bloods Collective will continue producing SPEAK for March 2018, and proceeds from this screening of Lunafest will help to support this creative local endeavor that benefits local women.
