Dance On Film ~ Tap World

Wednesday, June 17, 2015 - 7:00pm to 8:30pm
  • Library Hall

American rhythm. A global story.

A special Dance on Film screening with Tap World's executive producer, Jeff Peters. Jeff will talk about the making of the film and host a Q&A after the free community screening.

About ten years ago a 14-minute short film called Tap Heat contrasted traditional tap with the contemporary, as it was being created and performed by a new generation of dancers. The film played in 21 film festivals in several countries. Now the filmmakers have made a feature-length documentary, Tap World, that shows how this uniquely American art form has been given an exciting resurgence through the global embrace of dancers and audiences around the world.

Featuring dancers, choreographers and dance companies from across the globe, we see the participants dancing and we learn their personal stories that make up the heart and soul of the film. A new universal and growing family of tap dancers is re-invigorating the dance form and today's opportunities for creation are virtually limitless. The global tap that you will see in Tap World demonstrates how this dance fits perfectly with the musical culture of any society.

Tap isn’t back. It never went away. And it’s stronger than ever.
