Vanessa Woodford

I am a 67 year old lover of mysteries and therefore a prime candidate for genealogy!  I retired from being a librarian, moved

with my husband to Oak Creek to be near family and grandkids in 2008.  We've lived, played and enjoyed the mountains of Colorado for

some 42 years.  We have two sons, two great daughter-in-laws, 4 wonderful grandchildren who keep us busy.  We love the outdoors, volunteering,

and keeping active.  I've recently taken up ice skating lessons after some 40 years and love it!  There's always something interesting to see and

do-especially in genealogy.  My family started my interest by my father's reluctance to go there-of course that prompted my curiosity fast!  His family

goes back to the Ukraine (Russia), Prussia (Poland), Netherlands with names like Rempel, Regehr, Hamm, Lepp, Braun, etc.  My Mom's family

came from Finland and has Niemela, Kangas, Sillanpaa and others in her background.  My husband's family has lots of Irish, German, Scots,

and English in it-with a number of surprises!  The names are Woodford, McCannon, Huston, Russell, Proffitt, Boone (yes), Stoffer (Stover) and

others.  They range all over Europe, UK, and the US.

Most Fun Find:
Will share with the group in July.
Research Goals:
Right now I have a re-occuring brick wall that has driven me crazy for 10 years. My husband's great-grandfather, James Woodford, was born in Nov. 1833 (according to his obituary) in Chester County, Pennsylvania and listed his parents as William Woodford and Sarah Medera. The first mention of James is in 1850, living singly at supposed age 19 in Clarion, PA. I can find no further information on William and Sarah that works. Finally located a sister, Roslind, married to a Henry Adams in Bloomfield, Ohio. Sounds easy and should be simple-but its not!
Software Expertise:
Use and have Ancestry.com account.
Research Assistance:
Yes - I am happy to help others with their research needs. Feel free to contact me directly and I will see what I can do to assist you.
