  • Conference Room - Administration Wing

B.K.S. Iyengar's Light on Life ~ an in-depth reading and discussion of this seminal modern writing on yoga

As a complement to the library's ever-popular Community Yoga Practices, the Yoga Reading Group is designed to give yogis an opportunity to read and discuss books that delve deeper into the history, philosophy and culture of the yoga practice. Readings for each discussion session are divided into relatively short, manageable lengths to enable participants time for a careful reading and contemplation prior to discussion. The Yoga Reading Group is a community discussion for all levels of experience, whether you're a brand-new practitioner or a life-long, well-read yogi.

Yoga teacher Libbie Mathes will moderate the discussion. Libbie is Steamboat's longest-time yogi. She was a student of the legendary Yoga Master Sri T. Krishnamacharya while living in India for five years in the 1960s and has a personal connection to B.K.S. Iyengar.

About Light on Life
B.K.S. Iyengar--hailed as "the Michelangelo of yoga" (BBC) and considered by many to be the most important living yoga master--has spent much of his life introducing the modern world to the ancient practice of yoga. Yoga's popularity is soaring, but its widespread acceptance as an exercise for physical fitness and the recognition of its health benefits have not been matched by an understanding of the emotional, intellectual, and spiritual development that the yogic tradition can also offer. In Light on Life, B.K.S. Iyengar brings readers this new and more complete understanding of the yogic journey. Written with the depth of this sage's great wisdom, Light on Life is the culmination of a master's spiritual genius, a treasured companion to his seminal Light on Yoga.

The Yoga Reading Group meets on the following six Sundays from 10:30 a.m.-noon to discuss B.K.S. Iyengar's Light on Life. Reading assignments for each session are outlined next to each meeting date.
