Chasing the American dream, thousands of workers flock to Williston, North Dakota, where the oil business is booming. Desperate, broken men chase their dreams and run from their demons in the North Dakota oil fields. But instead of well-paying jobs, many find slim work prospects and a severe housing shortage. Pastor Jay Reinke converts his church into a makeshift dorm and counseling center, allowing hundreds of men, some with checkered pasts, to stay despite the congregation's objections and neighbors' fears. When opposition to the "overnighters" reaches a boiling point, Pastor Jay makes a decision with shattering consequences. A modern-day Grapes of Wrath, The Overnighters tells an electrifying story about the promise of redemption and the limits of compassion.
