Sunday, January 10, 2016 - 9:30am to 4:00pm
  • Lake Catamount

A two-day snow drawing installation with environmental artist Sonja Hinrichsen on Lake Catamount!

Posting this update after the event! The snow drawings were featured on 9News on Jan. 20. Here is the drone video of the 2016 Catamount snow drawing...

The local community is invited to join Sonja Hinrichsen in creating this large, landscape-scale work of art on the frozen surface of Lake Catamount on January 9-10, 2016. Participants must bring their own snowshoes, snacks and water.

Volunteer artists meet at Lake Catamount Outfitter's Cabin at 9:30 a.m., where specific instructions will be laid out for the day's creative work on the snow drawing. Carpooling is strongly encouraged since parking is limited at Lake Catamount. The Lake House Grille will be open for lunch and hot drinks. Work on the snow drawing will finish by 4 p.m.

Contact Adult Programs Coordinator Jennie Lay at jlay@steamboatlibrary.org with your name, dates you want to commit to working on the Lake Catamount snow drawing, and phone number.

Volunteer artists are urged to stop by the Snow Drawing Info Session on Thursday, January 7 in Library Hall. Sonja will share the vision and process with fellow artists, and final logistics for carpools, places to rent snowshoes, etc., will be discussed.

About the artist
Sonja Hinrichsen is an environmental artist who first came to Steamboat Springs in 2010 via a Colorado Art Ranch residency at The Nature Conservancy's Carpenter Ranch. She returned during winter 2012 for a series of community snow drawings on Rabbit Ears Pass  that received national and international attention, then again in 2013 and 2014 for widely recognized snow drawing installations on Lake Catamount.
