Silent Nights @ BWML: The General
Buster Keaton's most famous silent film , The General (1927), a true comedic adventure, with a recorded score by the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra
Railroad engineer Buster Keaton is rejected by the Confederate Army and by his sweetheart, Annabelle (Marion Mack). But when Northern spies kidnap both Annabelle and The General (his beloved train engine), it sets in motion cinema’s most perfectly structured comic epic with Keaton in single handed pursuit straight through enemy lines.
This 1927 silent film is presented here in a beautiful transfer from an archival print. The five-piece Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra uses historic “photoplay music” to create an authentic, exciting, and compelling score of the kind heard in movie theaters in the 1920s.
Run time: 107 min.
About Silent Nights @ BWML
As Hollywood revisits the magic of the Silent Film genre by making brand-new films like The Artist, Hugo and Louis during the past year, Bud Werner Memorial Library invites you to explore the Silent Film Era's classics. These pre-1928 films were originally created without synchronized recorded sound, with live musicians often accompanied the screenings. Throughout the series, the library presents silent films with live musicians as well as films with recordings that have been scored by the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra.
