One Book Movie Night: The Great Gatsby (2013)

Thursday, October 10, 2013 - 6:30pm to 8:30pm
  • Library Hall

A modern twist on a modern classic. Baz Luhrmann directs The Great Gatsby.

See the fourth film version of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic 1925 novel -- one of the most hyped movies of the summer of 2013, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Elizabeth Debicki and Joel Edgerton.

1926 SILENT FILM BONUS!
Before screening the latest film rendition, see the last remnants of the 1926 silent film adaptation of The Great Gatsby directed by Herbert Brenon, produced by Adolph Zukor and Jesse L. Lasky at Famous Players-Lasky, and released by Paramount Pictures. Regrettably, only the trailer survived for this 80-minute film, making it a famous example of a lost film. This was the first filmed version of the novel.

Run time: 143 min.

This is a featured event in the  ONE BOOK STEAMBOAT 2013 community read of F. Scott Fitzgeralds' novel The Great Gatsby.
