Jeannie Mobley Adult Workshop
Adult Workshop: Using Fiction to Explore Informational Texts in the Classroom
Historical fiction brings history alive in many ways. Middle grade author and anthropology instructor Jeannie Mobley explores ways that a writer researches the history behind a book, and how those research techniques can be adapted as classroom activities for students to explore history or social concepts.
She will examine ways students can use fiction as a gateway to finding and exploring the kinds of informational texts emphasized in the common core standards. She will discuss how her techniques can be used in grade school, middle school, and high school classrooms.
