Dance On Film ~ Scheherazade

Wednesday, March 9, 2016 - 6:30pm to 7:30pm
  • Library Hall

Steamboat Symphony Orchestra joins the library, Perry-Mansfield and Steamboat Dance Theatre in a special Dance on Film presentation this month to celebrate the orchestra's March 19 & 20 performances of Scheherazade, conducted by Ernest Richardson at the Strings Music Pavilion.

A ballet adaptation of Scheherazade premiered on June 4, 1910, at the Opéra Garnier in Paris, danced by the Ballets Russes. The choreography for the ballet was by Michel Fokine and the libretto was from Fokine and Léon Bakst, who also designed sets and costumes. Dance on Film features the Kirov Ballet's rendition of Scheherazade, a symphonic poem composed by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov in 1888 based on One Thousand and One Nights, sometimes known as The Arabian Nights.
