A selection of the 2015 film festival’s most popular screendance shorts. This is a compilation of accessible, creatively-infused, and beauty-laden shorts, perfect for a diverse audience – from new dance discoverer, to sophisticated aficionado.

The San Francisco Dance Film Festival was established in 2010 to give the Bay Area a much-needed platform for the presentation and further development of dance-based films. The Festival seeks to bring dance to wider audiences and supports interdisciplinary collaboration among artists by providing opportunities for education and creative exchange.

Dancers and filmmakers have worked together since the invention of the motion picture, but the dance film genre has exploded in recent years as digital technologies have become more accessible to independent artists. Today’s dance films encompass a wide range of interpretations and include contributions from visual artists, animators, composers and live performers. SFDFF’s programming covers this broad spectrum by highlighting sub-genres such as “screendance,” short experimental dance pieces created specifically for the camera, as well as film interpretations of dance performances originally created for the stage.

This Dance On Film series is presented by Bud Werner Memorial Library, Perry-Mansfield and Steamboat Dance Theatre. Perry-Mansfield is the oldest continuously operating arts camp in the United States. Steamboat Dance Theatre, a community dance organization, presents an annual concert ieach year, in addition to offering year-round dance scholarships and education programs in Yampa Valley schools and throughout the community. This collaborative and educational dance film series features free screenings of the hottest new dance documentaries along with the finest classic dance films from a variety of genres filmed throughout the ages.
