About the teachers
Cristen Malia lives in Steamboat Springs, where she gets to frolic in the Rocky Mountains and share yoga with others. Originally drawn to the practice of yoga to help open and lengthen her body counteracting the tightness that comes along with an active lifestyle, she now realizes it is so, so much more. Cristen’s classes are invigorating and dynamic, flowing with the breath, giving one the power to stay present and engaged in the moment while staying relaxed in the flow of life. Always a student and humbled by the practice, Cristen is so honored and grateful to be able to share the many benefits of yoga, and to support one in connecting to and opening their heart. She bows humbly to all of her teachers in life, especially her two young boys whom she practices with daily, and Rusty Wells whom she has completed 300+ hours of study with. Work hard, have fun, be kind- it’s that easy.
Jill Barker Jill Barker grew up on a small ranch in Poway, California, where she cultivated her love of horses. She shelved her cowboy
boots to study history at the University of California at Berkeley. After graduating from college, Jill traveled around the world for 18 months throughout Europe, India, Nepal, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. Upon return from her world expedition, she spent a summer in solitude, living in an old miner’s cabin on Mt. Baldy in Breckenridge, Colorado. Venturing on her bicycle from Breckenridge to Wyoming, she passed through Steamboat Springs and met her husband, Jim Barker. Jill’s two children, Jake and Lena, continue to be her greatest teachers.
Jill discovered yoga in 1992, and has been teaching since May of 2002 after completing her 200 hour certification at Shoshoni. She has continued her study of yoga with teachers such as John Friend, Erich Schiffman and Patricia Walden, but her primary influence was Marie Aguire, her first teacher in Steamboat Springs. Jill’s classes blend alignment principles with vinyasa flow while she encourages students to listen to their bodies and move mindfully through their practice. Jill has a great love of yoga and it is from that place she shares the practice.
