Ayurvedic Health & Cooking
Join Cooks with Books in April when Ayurvedic Health Practitioner (Intern), Carly Boeaudin will be with us twice. On April 7th she will be doing a cooking demo at Natural Grocers preparing an ancient cleansing food called Kitchari ( no need to sign up for this event). On April 15th test your new skills by sharing an Ayurvedic dish (cookbooks available at the front desk of the library), bring the dish to share, and then ask questions of our Guest Chef, Carly Beaudin.
About Cooks With Books
Cooks with Books is for people who enjoy researching, creating and sharing food. This book discussion group meets once a month and is facilitated by Bud Werner Library's Circulation Services Manager, Michelle Dover. Participants prepare a dish based on the month's theme and share it with the group. The group is open to anyone interested in participating, but is limited to 15 participants per meeting.
Ask a Chef Q and A
Why did you choose to become a chef?
I am currently in my field internship as an Ayurvedic Health
Practitioner. I completed my first two levels of classroom study at
the California College of Ayurveda in beautiful Nevada City,
California. I have just returned home to Steamboat Springs, Colorado
to join my family’s alternative healing practice. Ayurveda, the
ancient healing science from India, is one of the world’s oldest
systems of health care. My path into this ancient knowledge began
years ago after finishing my BA in communications at Fort Lewis
College. I stayed in Durango to strengthen my yoga practice and dance
in the mountains. Once I heard the word “Ayurveda,” my heart was on
fire. I am most impassioned about bringing the concept of “food as
medicine” into the lives of everyone I meet. Here in the west, the art
of spicing for digestion as well as taste has been lost. Eating is a
sacred act and I strive to empower individuals to become their own
practitioner through conscious choice and observation of their eating
habits. I have also been trained in Ayurvedic body therapies and
facials, Ayurvedic herbalism, marma point therapy, and pancha karma
therapy. I offer Ayurvedic consultation, which utilizes diet and
lifestyle choices, herbal treatment, meditation, therapeutic yoga, and
color and aromatherapy. Through Ayurveda, individuals have the
opportunity to find their true center and learn what choices will
provide optimum balance in their mind and body.
