A Seed Library Session: GMOs & The Law

Monday, April 28, 2014 - 6:30pm to 8:00pm
  • Library Hall

A film and conversation about the legalities of seed saving.

Learn more about why genetically modified seeds are not in the Bud Werner Seed Library -- and why our seed saving project must remain GMO-free.

The evening's 28-minute film, Seeds of Freedom, is narrated by Jeremy Irons, charting the story of seed from its roots at the heart of traditional, diversity rich farming systems across the world, to being transformed into a powerful commodity. After the film,  intellectual property attorney Scott Sinor will share background about the legal constraints behind growing, planting and saving GMO seeds and answer your questions.

About our guest speaker

He also has broad experience in general commercial litigation. More than books...Bud Werner Memorial Library is home to the Bud Werner Seed Library.
Library card holders now have free access to hundreds of varieties of vegetable and flower seeds. Community members can check out seeds just like they check books, music and DVDs. Here's how it works: Browse the Bud Werner Seed Library collection, check out the seeds you like, and take them home. Grow them. Save some of the seeds when you harvest. Then “return” seeds back to the library at the end of the season.
