Following up on the Dance on Film screening of Håstdans på Hovdala Perry-Mansfield is hosting a free breakfast in the Steinberg Pavilion on the Perry-Mansfield campus to introduce the community to an exciting new approach in the world of dance and in the world of horses.

Learn more about the Equus Projects featured in the film, and meet its Director/Choreographer, JoAnna Mendl Shaw.

The Equus Projects is a dance company that partners dancers with horses to create a merging of the artistry of dance and horsemanship. It involves a connective awareness or physical listening, an intertwining of movement that merges the two to become one. The dancer is on the ground and "sponging" the horses movement and communication and develops through a physical listening. It's quite remarkable and reveals yet another layer of how we may communicate with our beloved friends.

Perry-Mansfield welcomes the community on campus to enjoy the company of friends and see how the camp is expanding its program to include innovative and new approaches that bridge its three programs of dance, theatre, and horses. It's perfect for Pony Clubbers, Westernaires, Buck Brannaman, Parelli, Liberty, etc., with Perry-Mansfield horses. So, come and enjoy and become our community ambassadors.

JoAnna Shaw is a NYC-based dancer, choreographer and the Artistic Director of The Equus Projects, a dance company that has been touring the U.S. since 2002, including performance works for Perry-Mansfield in 2005 and 2006. The Equus Projects is composed of professional dancers all trained in natural horsemanship. The company creates large-scale performance works for dancers and horses. Although a great admirer of Cavalia and other equine performances, Shaw says that her work departs from the circus tradition. The Equus Projects’ performances seek out and theatrically frame the dynamic, athletic and always slightly unpredictable choreographic landscapes that emerge from the human / equine relationship.

The Dance on Film series is presented by the Bud Werner Memorial Library, Perry-Mansfield and Steamboat Dance Theatre.
