Children's Book Council
The
Children's Book Council (CBC) is a non-profit trade organization dedicated to
encouraging literacy and the use and enjoyment of children's books, and is the
official sponsor of Young People's Poetry Week and Children's Book Week each year.
This site includes information on all aspects of children's literature including
a showcase of new children's books, a featured artist, and of course, book lists
for all ages.
Newbery
Award-Winning Books
Every year, the American Library Association awards
the John Newbery award to authors of the best chapter books for children. This
is the most prestigious award in children's literature, as only one book is chosen
every year as the winner, while 3 or 4 others are chosen as Newbery Honor books.

The Caldecott Medal
Every year, the American Library Association awards the Randolph Caldecott medal
to the illustrator of the best picture book of the year. The Caldecott award and
Caldecott Honor awards are the most prestigious award a children's illustrator

The Boston-Globe Horn Book Awards
for Children's Literature
Now in its 35th year, this national award is
sponsored by the Boston Globe newspaper and the Horn Book, Inc. It annually honors
authors and illustrators of outstanding children's and young adult books in these
three categories: Fiction and Poetry, Nonfiction, and Picture Book. This site
provides a list of all winners from 1967 to the present.
